Currently we are serving more than 200 families and 800 individuals per month, including many single parent households and other struggling households, many with small children, through the Disciples Food Pantry. Anyone living in DuPage County is eligible to receive food.

The Disciples Food Pantry operates on cash and food donations. A majority of our food is purchased from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, which is a part of America's Second Harvest. We also receive food from local food drives and more recently have been receiving regular deliveries from local grocery stores.
Through participation by our members in the local CROP Walk, the Disciples Food Pantry also receives a portion of the funds raised by the local CROP Walk.

Clothing for Sale.
The Food Pantry is now selling gently used clothing with most items ranging from only $1 to $5. Our hope is that Food Pantry clients can benefit from finding clothing that they can use for a very reasonable price and the Food Pantry will benefit by being able to use the money raised from clothing sales to purchase more food.

On some occasions, the Disciples Food Pantry has been able to provide special packaged dinners, food certificates, and other extras to help families. With the help of Toys for Tots and other contributors, we have been able to assist families with Christmas gifts for their children.

If you have would like more information on becoming a client of the Disciples Food Pantry, or to donate food or volunteer, you can contact the Director, Joan Fuller at (630)833-7262 or pjbunyon@hotmail.com

How It Began. The Disciples Food Pantry began as a ministry of the Christian Church of Villa Park around 1990 in response to neighborhood need as people continued to knock on the door of our church parsonage looking for food. It was initially set up in the church kitchen, occupying several of our kitchen cabinets.

At the beginning, it was more of an emergency pantry, and served only a few families. The Food Pantry slowly outgrew the kitchen cabinets and beginning in 2001, dedicated space in the church was given for the work of the Food Pantry. Now 3 rooms in the church are dedicated solely for use by the Disciples Food Pantry.

Today. Today the Disciples Food Pantry is a thriving ministry of the Christian Church of Villa Park. Many members of our church community as well as friends from outside of the church serve as volunteers for the Disciples Food Pantry throughout the year. We hope to explore other ways that we may be able to serve the needs of the surrounding community.

Over the time that we’ve been working in the Food Pantry, we’ve come to see many familiar faces who’ve become friends. We’ve been blessed as a family and this is a way for us to give back and help others.
